the brief

Rally is modelled on the technical profile of a high-growth performance media agency managing €5M+ in annual ad spend; the kind of paid-traffic operation where 4-second mobile delays quietly incinerate ad budgets and launching new campaign variants takes weeks of developer backlog.

what changed

Sub-second mobile delivery protects ad spend while same-day variant publishing shortens test turnaround.

In paid media, every 1-second mobile delay drops conversion rates by up to 20%. When an agency spends €100k a month directing traffic to WordPress or Unbounce landers burdened with 18 tracking pixels and heavy builder scripts, over a third of ad spend is lost to mobile bounce-off. Rally serves pure static HTML/CSS from Cloudflare's edge network, cutting mobile LCP to 0.58 seconds and clearing the browser main thread entirely.

Media buyers assemble landing pages using pre-tested, design-system-governed Storyblok components. Edge middleware routes traffic across variants without client-side redirect flicker or hydration lag, enabling high-velocity testing cycles that were previously blocked behind developer sprints.

inside the build

the paid ad budget bleed

Performance agencies live and die by Return on Ad Spend (ROAS). When acquiring clicks at €3 to €12 each across Meta, Google Search, and LinkedIn, what happens in the first two seconds determines whether the campaign is profitable or underwater.

Most campaign landers are built on legacy visual builders—Unbounce, Instapage, or bloated WordPress installs. These platforms bundle megabytes of runtime JavaScript, jQuery dependencies, and un-optimized form libraries. Stack eight to fifteen analytics and tracking pixels on top, and mobile Largest Contentful Paint routinely exceeds 5.5 seconds on real cellular networks.

Before the headline appears, 35% to 45% of paid visitors have left. The agency still pays for those clicks.

edge delivery for campaign pages

Rally reimagines the campaign landing page as an edge-native static artifact.

Page markup, critical CSS, and above-the-fold media compile to pure static files distributed across Cloudflare’s global network of 330+ edge locations. Initial client JavaScript is exactly 0 KB. Interactive conversion elements—like multi-step qualification forms and ROI calculators—are isolated into lightweight Astro islands that hydrate only when visible.

The reference build records a 0.58-second mobile LCP. Visitors see the offer before the form and calculator islands hydrate.

15-minute variant velocity

The best-performing campaign is rarely the first draft. Winning at paid media requires relentless testing: different angles, new headlines, localized social proof, and altered form flows.

In traditional setups, launching a new variant requires either an agency webmaster submitting Jira tickets or a non-technical marketer wrestling with fragile visual builders that break responsive layouts.

With Rally’s Storyblok integration, media buyers assemble new landers by dragging pre-approved design-system blocks into place. Typography, spacing, mobile responsiveness, and brand tokens are strictly enforced by the component system—so pages look polished without designer intervention. New variants deploy in under fifteen minutes.

zero-flicker edge a/b routing

Traditional client-side A/B testing tools (e.g., Google Optimize, VWO) work by loading a heavy script that inspects the visitor and rewrites the DOM in real time. This introduces visible page flicker, degrades Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), and slows down First Contentful Paint.

Rally handles variant routing directly in Cloudflare Edge Workers:

  • Incoming ad clicks are assigned a test bucket at the edge based on campaign query parameters or cookie headers.
  • The correct variant is served directly from edge cache in under 25 milliseconds.
  • Zero client-side redirect, zero layout shift, and zero third-party testing script overhead.

the benchmark numbers

Metric Legacy Builder (WordPress / Unbounce) Rally (Astro + Cloudflare Edge) Delta
Mobile LCP (throttled 4G) 5.62s 0.58s -89.7%
Initial client JavaScript 1,180 KB 0.0 KB (2.4 KB form island) -99.8%
Lighthouse mobile score 31 / 100 100 / 100 +69 pts
Mobile bounce rate ~42% ~18% -57.1% bounce-off
Variant turnaround 6–10 days (dev backlog) 15 minutes (direct in CMS) 40x faster iteration
Edge cache hit ratio 0% (dynamic builder SSR) 99.6% (Cloudflare edge) Instant global delivery
A/B testing latency 300–600ms (client script flicker) 0ms (edge-routed at cache) Zero CLS, zero flicker

the result

Sub-second edge delivery multiplies the return on paid ad spend, so high-intent traffic from Meta, Google, and LinkedIn converts instead of bouncing back to search results.

Decoupled component architecture lets media buyers and creative strategists spin up, test, and kill variant landers in under fifteen minutes—with zero developer tickets and zero deployment queues.
